Pond cleanings are almost done… the fun work is about to start

We have over 150 ponds in the area — and our season starts early with cleanings and water plant maintenance to get everything off to a fresh start. We divide the water lilies and the hearty marginals. We clean out all of winter’s build up… freshen the water supply. Before we head out, we also consult with the fish on how they passed another New England winter.

Once we get reacquainted, then the new construction projects begin: we have a blue stone patio, patio and firepit going in in North Andover; a blue stone patio, water garden, fire pit and planting in Andover… this is the really fun part.

Pond a little green? Don’t panic!

As the heat returns, you may see some algae buildup in your pond. Don’t panic: and by all means don’t use pool algaecide in your pond! We recommend a ‘kinder, gentler’ solution, that will above all do no harm to plants and fish.

Rule #1: Don’t name the fish

We live in New England — and in addition to the beauty of four seasons, the mountains to the north, the Atlantic to the east and south, we have great blue herons and other birds of prey.

Do yourself a favor, add cute fish to your pond… just don’t give them names. You’ll miss them.

Have you trimmed your grasses yet?

Now is a great time to trim last year’s now-brown blades away from your grasses. Trim down to just above the new growth. They should take off before you know it now that things are really warming up.
